Last weekend the best Elite teams in the country met at the University of Cambridge Sport Centre to fight it out for the 2017 Goalfix Goalball Cup! As well as the 7 English teams including last year’s winners Winchester and the 2017 Elite League Champions Northern Allstars, we were joined by the Danish Men’s goalball team playing under the name Denblast.

The competition churned out some gripping games along with some outstanding individual and team performances. The final saw the hometown team Cambridge face up against the 2016 Cup Winners Winchester. The final was set to be an exhilarating spectacle with the Dons getting there with the least goals conceded in the tournament and Winchester with the most scored. In the end Winchesters barrage of shots got through the Dons defence to come out as 5-3 victors. Winchester have now won back-to-back Goalball Cups. They will now have their eyes set on equalling the record set by Leicester Bulls and London Sport of three consecutive Goalball Cup wins.

It was a high scoring competition with a total of 311 goals scored with the Men’s top scorer going to Dan Roper of RNC Academy with 28 goals and Women’s top scorer going to Meica Christensen of Nottingham Sheriffs with 17 goals.
