In 3 weeks, 15 tandems will be setting off from Morecambe in Lancashire to cycle the 170 Coast to Coast miles to Bridlington in East Yorkshire, to raise money for Goalball UK.
Each week we are introducing you to 2 of the participants:
Neda is an OD consultant, working with charities and the NHS. She also works as an advisor to the UK Faculty of Public Health. Furthermore, she is co vice-chairman for a school for children with learning difficulties, where her fellow co vice-chairman is blind. She is a ‘casual’ cyclist, with tandem experience – though she admits this is be 40 years ago.
Michael O’Keeffe is a schoolteacher, currently working in Skegness – his wife Marzena works as a teacher of the visually impaired in Lincolnshire. Michael took up cycling again last August, after a break of seven years, and has begun doing Audax – long distance cycle events. This summer he has qualified for the Paris-Brest-Paris randonneur – a 90 hour, 1200km jaunt through northern France, which he is doing for charity (justgiving.com/CafodJustOneWorld). Michael has owned a number of tandems over the years and is currently restoring a 1940s Alworth triplet tandem.
