GB Men Win Gold in Malmo

The Great Britain’s Men’s team returned from Malmo not only gaining promotion to the European B league but winning the IBSA Goalball Mens Euro C Championships. The team of Adam Knott (Winchester) David Knott (Winchester) David Butler (Nottingham) Filmon Eyassu (Cambridge) and Dan Roper (RNC Hereford) completed the group stages with 4 wins and 2 losses which meant they comfortably qualified for the semi-finals. The semi-final line was a repeat of Worcester 2013 with Russia V Italy and Great Britain V Portugal. It was the same result in the Russia V Italy game with Russia progressing to the final 8-5. Great Britain however avenged for the semi-final defeat in Worcester by beating Portugal 5-3 in a tense game to progress to the final and most importantly win promotion to the B league! The final v Russia was another incredibly close game and with the score tied 5-5 at full time the game went to overtime. With 1.30 left of the first half Dan Roper scored the Golden Goal to seal a great 6-5 Victory!  Everyone at Goalball UK would like to congratulate the team on their success!
