Following the success of last year’s event, last weekend Goalball players of all levels from across the country came together in York to take part in the 2nd Goalball UK 24 Hour Marathon Tournament.

The event was a huge success, with 26 players taking part from 8 different clubs. Alongside these players, there was an Officials ‘Dream Team’ competing – offering players the perfect opportunity to get their own back for the high ball calls throughout the season.

The Tournament was split into 2 pools of players based on ability and experience, with games starting every 30 minutes from 2pm Saturday and finishing on 2pm Sunday. Following 48 games of Goalball, the points were added together to find the 2 group winners, who were presented with trophies which put the World Cup and Champions League Trophies to shame.

The winners of pool A were ‘The Dreamers’, made up of Charlie Woodhead (Scarborough), Dean Wilcox (West Yorkshire) and Jason Tang (Cambridge).

The winners of pool B were ‘A Rose between 2 Thorns’, made up of Dave Butler (Nottinghamshire), Louise Simpson (West Yorkshire) and Adam Cameron (York).

Goalball UK would like to say a huge thanks to all the officials and volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the 24 hours to make sure everyone was kept fed and reasonably awake.

We hope everyone has caught up on some much needed sleep!
